With profound sadness and broken hearts, family, friends, colleagues, and the Rockland County community are mourning the unexpected passing of Amanda Christine Lydon, who died far too soon at the age of 38. Her loss has left an immeasurable void in the lives of those who knew and loved her, while countless others remember the extraordinary kindness, laughter, and compassion she shared so freely.
Amanda was the kind of person whose presence could brighten any room. To know her was to know genuine warmth, infectious laughter, and unwavering loyalty. She had an incredible gift for making others feel welcome, valued, and loved, whether through her quick wit, unforgettable stories, or simply by being there when someone needed a friend. Her generous heart and selfless spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross her path.
A devoted daughter, sister, granddaughter, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend, Amanda treasured her family above all else. She embraced every role in her life with love and dedication, creating cherished memories that her loved ones will carry with them forever. She is survived by her parents, Pamela Tofallos Lydon and Terance Lydon; her stepfather, John Tosto; her sisters, Danielle Laurenzano and Emily Lydon; her brother-in-law, Joseph Laurenzano; her beloved niece, Sofia Laurenzano; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her cherished grandparents, Patricia Tofallos, George “Bud” Lydon, and Elizabeth “Tibby” Lydon, as well as her aunt Patrice Tofallos, Aunt Valerie Lydon Martin, and Uncle Wayne Lydon.
Amanda’s greatest professional passion was serving students with disabilities and their families. She dedicated more than 20 years of her life to Rockland BOCES, beginning her career there at just 18 years old. Throughout her years of service, she became known for her patience, empathy, and unwavering commitment to helping every student reach their fullest potential. Her colleagues admired her dedication, while students and families will forever remember the positive difference she made in their lives.
Before dedicating herself to education, Amanda was an accomplished athlete who loved playing travel softball, where she developed the teamwork, determination, and competitive spirit that would continue to shape her life.
As those who loved Amanda come together to mourn her passing, they also celebrate a life defined by generosity, laughter, and service to others. Her legacy lives on in the countless students she inspired, the friendships she nurtured, and the family she cherished so deeply.
