With profound sadness, family, friends, and the China Township, Michigan, community are mourning the loss of David Leon Atkins II, who passed away on July 18, 2026, at the age of 41. A devoted husband, loving father, faithful Christian, respected professional, and dedicated youth baseball coach, David leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and unwavering love for his family.
Born on March 2, 1985, to David and Lisa Atkins, David was a proud graduate of Marysville High School’s Class of 2003. He later earned his bachelor’s degree in HVAC from Ferris State University, where he met the love of his life, Jennifer “Jenn” Griesmaier. Their relationship blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and the couple married on October 1, 2011, building a home centered on faith, family, and love.
David began his professional career with Johnson Controls, where he worked for a decade before transitioning into the utilities industry. Through dedication, hard work, and strong leadership, he advanced to become a supervisor with Consumers Energy, earning the respect of colleagues and those he mentored.
A longtime member of Rock Church in Ira Township, David’s faith was a guiding force throughout his life. Alongside Jenn and fellow church members, he participated in a mission trip to South Africa, demonstrating his commitment to serving others and sharing his faith beyond his community.
Outside of work, David found joy in the outdoors. An avid hunter, he loved pheasant and deer hunting and found peace in nature. Family vacations filled with hiking, sightseeing, and creating lasting memories were among his greatest treasures.
Perhaps nothing brought David greater happiness than being a father. He was deeply devoted to his children—Josie, David III, Jessalyn, and Joelle—and took immense pride in supporting their activities and celebrating their accomplishments. As a baseball coach for Marine City Little League and the Blue Water Titans, he positively influenced countless young athletes, especially his son, David III, teaching lessons that extended far beyond the baseball field.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Jenn; his four children; his parents, David and Lisa Atkins; his sisters, Dana LaBelle and Diandra (Dave) Gurne; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many cherished friends who will forever remember his generous heart and steadfast character.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home in China Township. A funeral service will take place on Friday, July 24, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning one hour before the service. David will be laid to rest at Caswell Cemetery in Kimball Township.
As loved ones gather to celebrate his life, they remember a man who led with integrity, loved without reservation, and lived each day with purpose. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, David Leon Atkins II’s legacy of faith, family, compassion, and service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
