A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder following a tragic stabbing that claimed the life of his mother and left his 12-year-old sister critically injured in Bentley, a suburb in Perth’s south-east.
According to Western Australia Police, officers responded to a residence in Bentley on Tuesday morning following reports of a serious incident. Upon arriving at the home, police discovered the body of a 35-year-old woman, who had sustained fatal stab wounds. Despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities allege the woman’s 12-year-old daughter was also stabbed during the incident. Despite suffering serious injuries, the young girl managed to escape the home and reach a nearby highway, where members of the public came to her aid. Bystanders immediately provided life-saving first aid before paramedics arrived and transported her to Perth Children’s Hospital.
Hospital officials have confirmed that the girl remains in critical but stable condition as she continues to receive specialized medical treatment.
Following an investigation, police arrested the woman’s 16-year-old son, who has since been charged with one count of murder and one count of attempting to unlawfully kill. He appeared before the Perth Children’s Court on Wednesday. Because the accused is a minor, authorities have not released his identity.
